Irish use of the drug has returned to Celtic Tiger levels
Having waned during the recession years, the Global Drug Survey 2016 reveals that cocaine use in Ireland has almost doubled from 24.8% to 43% of those taking illicit substances here.
Running in association with Hot Press, the Irish findings reveal that 71.4% of people usually drink when they’re taking cocaine with the average per gram price down slightly to €84.20.
49.6% say they’ve been offered ‘premium’ cocaine at a higher price with the promise that it's better quality than the standard product.
Of the 58.7% who paid €100 or more for premium, 25.5% reckoned it to be “much better."
0.3% of users reported seeking emergency medical treatment in the last 12 months while 4.1% had been exposed to personal violence at least once when buying cocaine.
