Halloween star Jamie Lee Curtis has revealed she was secretly addicted to opioid for ten years. "No one knew," she states in a new interview with People magazine.
The actress was first prescribed opioid back in 1989 after minor plastic surgery “for my hereditary puffy eyes”.
"I was ahead of the curve of the opiate epidemic. I had a 10-year run, stealing, conniving. No one knew. No one," says Jamie Lee Curtis.
The 59-year-old actress said that getting clean and sober was her "single greatest accomplishment". She also reckons it's accomplishment that's even "bigger than my husband, bigger than both of my children and bigger than any work, success, failure. Anything".
She has now been off the drug for 20 years, but it was a struggle. Talking about the difficulties she faced in rehab, Jamie Lee Curtis said, "In recovery meetings, anyone who brings up opiates, the entire room will turn and look at me, because I'll be like, 'Oh here, talk to me. I'm the opiate girl'."
Jamie's famous father Tony Curtis himself abused alcohol, cocaine and heroin. While her half-brother, Nicholas, tragically died in 1994 from a heroin overdose.

"I'm breaking the cycle that has basically destroyed the lives of generations in my family," Curtis told People.
This isn't the first time Jamie Lee Curtis has opened app about drugs. Back in 2002, she told Entertainment Tonight: "I had a past and it involved drugs and alcohol, and luckily, that was about it.
"I think any addiction threatens your life. I don't want to sugarcoat it. I think that these addictions are deadly. I think it's epidemic proportions and I think it's deadly."
