Sex: There's a Recession in Japan!

Japan's national fertility study has revealed that millennials in the Land of the Rising Sun aren't having sex! Really. The 2019 study found that one in ten men in their 30's remain virgins - a very high number compared to other industrialised nations. Experts are blaming a number of causes. These include apps that offer online companionship; and rising financial instability, among other factors. Public health researchers and experts are panicking. They predict that if this trend continues Japan's population will be halved over the next 100 years. Curiously, there are very few immigrants in Japan, so this is a very Japanese problem...

'Viagra' for Women

For a long time, there has been viagra for men to help with erectile dysfunction. Now the search for a counterpart for women may be at an end. In the US two new drugs have been approved by the FDA: flibanserin (Addyi) and bremelanotide (Vyleesi). They are designed to increase sexual desire in females who are premenopausal. Low sex drive affects around 10% of women. The two drugs work differently, Vyleesi is injected up to 45 mins before sex, while Addyi is a pill that you take once a day.

People are Having Sex Later in Life

There is a view that as people get older, sex becomes a less important part of their lives and their relationships. However, this old-fashioned view is called into question by a new survey. The survey shows that 85% of people aged 60-69; 60% of those aged 70-79; and 32% of those aged 80 and over report being sexually active. As they aged, women were found to get less sexually active - but the study does show that many women, like men, want to continue to have sex as they get older. The study also shows that having sex later into life can help improve with mental and physical health. So it is, as they say, a win-win situation.
