European Sex Workers Want Rights
Sex workers held a news conference at the European Parliament this month to urge the European Union to recognise the world’s oldest profession as work. Male and female sex workers from the International Committee on the Rights of Sex Workers in Europe (ICRSE) want the EU to end discrimination against sex work, afford workers legal rights and regulate the industry. The ICRSE believe that regulating the industry would reduce exploitation and that sex workers would be more willing to pay tax in return for rights and social protection. While prostitution is legal in some EU member countries and is tolerated in others, the laws regarding sex work vary across the EU.
Improve your Diet and Your Sex Life
Losing a few pounds could have a dramatic impact on your sex life. A study by researchers at Duke University found that obese people who shed around 10 percent of their body weight report a greatly improved sex life. Although a number of reports have been written on the physical effects that obesity can have on a person’s sex life, the Duke University study is one of the first to examine the mental and emotional implications of obesity and sexuality. According to the findings, even a moderate weight loss can lead to a better body image – and a more satisfying sex life.

Books
Kim Cattrall, best known for her role as the sexually voracious Samantha Jones in Sex And The City, has published her second book, Sexual Intelligence. And guess what? It sets out to answer the mysteries of sexuality, to discover the anatomy of desire, arousal and sexual release. The book tries to connect the ancient with the modern and the sublime with the mundane and examines ancient erotic art, myths and legends, human anatomy as well as references experts such a Betty Dodson and has quotes from six ordinary people chosen to represent a cross-section of sexual interests and tastes. A documentary of the same name ties in with the book and Sexual Intelligence looks set to be another winner for the actress-turned-author. Cattrall’s first book, Satisfaction: The Art of the Female Orgasm, co-written with her then-husband Mark Levinsone, was a bestseller. Sexual Intelligence is available in hardback from Eason on www.buy4now.ie and retails for 22.34.
My Chemical Romance
Things going on in your body at a chemical level can affect your sex drive and how attractive others find you. Here are some interesting titbits that either support this – or otherwise!
• Attractive physical features are said to indicate the correct hormonal balance. A square, broad jaw is said to be evidence of high levels of testosterone. This is why women find it attractive on a man, but men aren’t so keen on it on women.
• According to a study, men who snore have higher levels of testosterone.
• It’s no wonder people get up to all sorts of sexual adventures at the various Costas. Sunlight activates the pineal gland to produce melatonin, a substance that increases the sex drive. Added to that, men produce more testosterone in summer.
• Ladettes beware! Women have increased levels of testosterone after drinking alcohol.
• If you are feeling horny, a cold shower is not likely to calm you down. Cold showers boost the production of sex hormones in both men and women.
• Pheromones are thought to be a by-product of hormone productions. In humans and animals they can indicate to possible partners that you are sexually receptive.
• Male pheromones smell musky. Women’s sensitivity to musky smells increases about 100 times during ovulation.
• Regular contact with women triggers the increase of pheromones in men and results in more facial hair.
