Is appreciation of your own body a freedom of speech issue? Well, it is in America. Two high school pupils, Carrie Rethlefsen and Emily Nixon, face expulsion from Winona High School for wearing buttons proclaiming “I [heart] My Vagina.”

After seeing the play, The Vagina Monologues, the girls decided to raise awareness of women’s issues. However school authorities decided the badges were inappropriate and offensive. Despite the threat of expulsion, Rethlefsen and Nixon refuse to back down.

Students at the school have largely supported the girls’ efforts, and more than 100 have ordered printed T-shirts with the same slogan for girls and “I Support Your Vagina” for boys.

Their case could become a test of whether high school students have the right to express their views on school property. Charles Samuelson, executive director of the American Civil Liberties Union of Minnesota, has offered assistance the girls.

Rise of the Machines
Necessity is the mother of invention. A German inventor, Michael Harriman, claims to have created the world’s most sophisticated robot sex doll. Harriman, an aircraft mechanic, has designed the sexbots with a set of responses that mimic a human’s physical reactions to intercourse. These include an increased heart beat, heavy breathing and rising body temperature. Harriman reckons his robots are almost impossible to distinguish from the real thing but plans on improving his invention. The doll retail for around £4,000 for the basic model. Scary stuff.

I guess it’s all a question of priorities, but 14 percent of the world’s mobile phone users report that they have stopped in the middle of a sex act to answer a call. The Germans and the Spanish are the worst offenders – a shocking 22 percent of users interrupted sex to answer their mobile phones – deary me, what were they thinking of? Or not, as the case may be! The lowest incidence was in Italy, where only 7 percent of respondents reported doing so. Err… has no one heard of voicemail?
