January – Real Live Sex Is OK
A study by Chorus, the cable television provider, found that less than half of Irish people and only a third of 16 – 29 year olds object to real live sex on reality TV.
Sex.com was sold in January for about $12 million and ranks as one of the most expensive domain name transfers ever.
February – Love Starts At Work
A survey conducted by the recruitment website Monster.ie found that 31% of Irish women and 28% of Irish men admitted to falling in love with a colleague.
March – Government Moves On Gays
The Irish government decided to consider recognising gay partnerships before the end of 2006. Meanwhile, Ian Paisley wanted to insert a clause into the Good Friday Agreement, saying that sodomy is a sin.
April – Gender Equality Means Good Sex
Actor and comedian, Gilbert Gottfried was named the ‘Unsexiest Man in the World’ by the Boston Phoenix newspaper which described him as a “parrot-voiced, pickled-faced comic.”
May – Safe Sex For A Week
Ireland’s first National Condom Week to promote safer sex took place from May 8th to 13th, supported by the Dublin AIDS Alliance, the Union of Students in Ireland, the Irish Family Planning Association and the Crisis Pregnancy Agency, and sponsored by Durex.

June – Women For Porn
Toronto became the first city to host a feminist porn awards to celebrate filmmakers whose work is sex-positive and make women feel good about sex and their bodies.
July – Crisis Pregnancy Org In Crisis
The CEO of the Well Women Centres Alison Begas urged the government to regulate the crisis pregnancy counselling sector after it was revealed that some organisations posing as legitimate counselling services are fronts for pro-life groups.
August – Red Is Hot
A study by a German sex researcher, Dr Werner Habermehl, found that redheads have more active sex lives than their blonde and brunette sisters. Some of us are not surprised…
September – Those Were The Good Old Days?
A survey by the University of Hamburg has found that men in their 30s and 40s are avoiding sex because they simply don’t have the energy. The average man has sex four to 10 times a month, but only a generation ago, this age group would have had sex around 18 to 22 times a month.
October – Sex Pays In Dublin
The Sunday Times reported that prostitutes in Dublin earn up to 400 euros per hour for their services and that most keep around 50% of their earnings.
November – The Age Of Consent
According to the results of a survey by the Department of Children, Irish teens believe that the age of sexual consent should be the same for boys and girls, that boys should not face criminal prosecution for having consensual sex with girls younger than 17 and that sex education in schools needs to be improved.
December – Gifts Of Lingerie
Hot Press sex columnist Anne Sexton is inundated with gifts of lingerie, sex toys, fetish gear and adults only DVDs from her growing legion of secret admirers. They all remember that she is a perfect Size 8. Happy new year…
