Hold tight for the best thing they've done since Up The Bracket!
Amongst the bounteous delights to be found in the new Hot Press, out this week with Liam Gallagher and John Squire and Dune: Part Two starring on the flip-cover, is a rollicking interview with Messrs. - and, indeed, messers – Carl Barât and Pete Doherty who tell us all about the stunning new Libertines album, All Quiet On The Eastern Esplanade, which drops on March 29. The various versions and merch bundles are available now for pre-order at https://thelibertines.tmstor.es/?lf=d0f01217159918946e31f677029b0712
It starts off with the chaps telling us about their working trip to Jamaica where they managed to avoid doing a Happy Mondays.
“They blew a quarter of a million pounds of record company money on crack cocaine, didn’t they?” Pete says.
“We weren’t entrusted with that sort of money but we managed to blow everything we were entrusted with,” Carl adds proudly.
“It could have easily just descended into paddle-boarding, cocaine and rum but, no, we knuckled down and got some serious work done,” Pete resumes. “Actually, there was some paddle-boarding and quite a bit of rum so we did Shaun Ryder moderately proud.”
Elsewhere, we get the skinny on Daily Mail-baiting new song 'Merry Old England' (“Over time we built up this collage of mad headlines to do with the refugee crisis – a mind-warping tabloid feast of anti-immigrant sentiment"); Pete's maritime misfortunes (“He bought a little motor-boat in Margate and sailed about twenty feet out before it sank"); and fallen comrade Shane MacGowan (“With the Libs, the ‘shambles and the Puta Madres, Shane would come on and do ‘Dirty Old Town’ which was always really special").

Margate FC, Fontaines D.C., the Sex Pistols and The Wolfe Tones also feature as we track Carl and Pete down to their Margate layer. Add in a full review of All Quiet On The Eastern Esplanade and, well, it's a veritable feast for Libertines fans who'll be counting down the days until their autumn tour, which includes visits to the Dublin 3Olympia (September 23) and Telegraph Building, Belfast (24).
