Si Schroeder is an enigmatic musical paragon that's one of the best and most innovative things this country's produced. Coping Mechanisms sounds like classic Simon & Garfunkel mixed with an old recording of a drunken Slovenian orchestra playing backwards, with a hint of heartfelt Americana. But it works so wonderfully you'll wonder how you ever lived without him telling you his soft stories of mental illness, international terrorism, and of Ireland. Beautiful.
