Friday afternoons at Electric Picnic have a reputation for their low-energy, 'hungunder' crowds, still dazed after long commutes and treks to their campsites. That didn't faze Toucan, however, who thrilled their audience at the Electric Arena on Friday afternoon.

With a well-polished funk-pop sound  - containing more than a few bluesy nods to Hozier - it was hard to believe that this was Toucan's Electric Picnic debut. Although still fresh on the scene, the homegrown group have built up an enviable reputation on the back of their debut self-titled EP.

Led by singer-songwriter Conor Clancy, Toucan's soulful, feel-good energy enticed plenty of wandering revellers into the tent, but the thousands of streams the Munster group have clocked up on Spotify were also well-represented, with hoards of teenage devotees shouting  back every word.

Toucan shined particularly bright on 'Gold' and 'We Fell For Miles', previously featured as a Hot Press Track of the Day, with an impressively full sound driven by powerful saxophone, trumpet, keys and guitar lines - all brought together by an irresistible grooves.

Capturing the energy of a summertime festival with feel-good, soulful numbers, Toucan truly set the tone for Electric Picnic. Keep the party going and catch the band when they play The Academy in Dublin on December 5.
