(19/100 Greatest Irish Albums)
Thin Lizzy’s sixth album found them at their studio best.
Thin Lizzy’s sixth album found them at their studio best. The twin guitars of Scott Gorham and Brian Robertson were blazing, Brian Downey stoked up the rhythms and Philip Lynott’s songwriting skills were at their zenith.
Adding a lyrical, romantic twist to the standard hard rock template, it included such gems as ‘The Boys Are Back In Town’ (originally called ‘GI Joe’s Back In Town)’, ‘Romeo And The Lonely Girl’, ‘Running Back’ and the title-track which makes the best use of a siren in a song…ever!
Even though punk was raging outside, there was no shortage of takers for a record that peaked at number 10 in the UK and 18 in America where Lizzy were now on the road to stadium superstar status.
